School Site Manager offers a suite of functionality serving the variety of school website users. The following sections provide a summary of the functions most relevant to different users and purposes.

For Parents

  • Announcements - Parents may check the announcements on the home page to keep up on important school activities and events.

  • School calendar - The sophisticated yet easy-to-use calendar is central to School Site Manager.  It includes events of general interest which can be viewed by event category.  Events can occur on a single day, such as a basketball game, or can extend over many days, such as spring break.

  • Specialized calendars - Each course section and extracurricular activity has its own dedicated calendar.  Course section calendars typically include assignments, due dates, exam dates and often show the time spans for major sections of the course or long-term assignments like term papers.

  • Courses, Sections and Teachers - Information about courses, sections and teachers is available at the discretion of teachers and policies of the administration.  It can include overviews of the course, classroom policies, classroom FAQs, photo galleries of class activities or student work, files such as course handouts and permission forms, relevant hyperlinks, schedules and due dates and more.

  • Staff directory - Automatically generated from the information that teachers enter into the database.  Instantly updated when a teacher or staff member changes his or her profile.

  • PTA - Either link to the PTA's own site or create PTA pages on the School Site Manager site simply by filling out Web forms.

  • Volunteer Opportunities - School Site Manager provides a capability for teachers and others to list opportunities for parents to volunteer their efforts to support school or classroom activities.  With our volunteer logon capability, volunteers can be authorized to make updates to information about specific classes, extracurriculars or other informational pages.  This way parents can volunteer to help even if they would have difficulty being physically present.

  • Newsletters - School Site Manager provides a Newsletter Manager for teachers and administration to manage subscription lists and create newsletters from templates that are emailed to the subscription list and automatically archived on the site. Each course section can have its own newsletter if the teacher wishes. Teachers can also print newsletters for paper distribution.

For Academics

  • Detailed information on Courses, Sections and Teachers - Teachers may add as much or as little information about themselves and their courses as they choose.  They can update the information as frequently as they wish, without having to wait for someone else to enter it.  Want to put a handout online for a class that begins in ten minutes?  Go ahead.

  • Lesson plans - Our Lesson Plan Manager enables teachers to create daily lesson plans. Two convenient lesson plan builders allow teachers to start with simple planning book-style plans, then share, develop and enhance those into detailed lesson plans linked to learning standards. Lesson plans are reuseable.  Borrow from another course or copy your own course from a previous semester.  Lesson plan sets are automatically fit to a new semester with different dates, days of the week and holidays. Public portions of lesson plans (objectives, homework assignments, etc.) are automatically displayed on the course setion's calendar, convenient for students and helpful for parents.

  • Learning standards management - Daily lesson plans can be tied to our database of learning standard objectives to help manage compliance to state-mandated course content.  See if all required objectives are being addressed and when. Learn more about managing lesson plans and learning standards.

  • Share/copy course materials - Technology should make things easier for teachers, not harder.  School Site Manager supplies several tools and capabilities that allow teachers to share and reuse work among classes and from one semester to another.

  • Staff directory - Automatically generated from the information that teachers enter into the database.  Instantly updated when a teacher or staff member changes his or her profile.

  • File attachments and file management - For each course section and extracurricular a list is maintained of its own file attachments.  These can be course notes, handouts, permission forms, materials lists, nearly any sort of file.

  • Professional Development - School Site Manager provides a facility for teachers to track their professional development courses and note progress toward goals and requirements.

News, Memories & Recognition

  • Announcements - Announcements appear on the home page and are automatically rotated through all current announcements.  Announcements can be created with specific activation and expiration dates, which make it easy to set it up, then forget it.  The software takes care of displaying them at the appropriate time.

  • Profiles of outstanding students and faculty - Recognize outstanding students, staff or school visitors with profiles.  Profiles are articles, including text and a photo, that appear on the home page.  When multiple profiles are active, different ones will appear on different visits to the home page.

  • Photo Galleries - The most fun part of the school newspaper and yearbook are the pictures, right?  School Site Manager makes it easy to collect and publish photo galleries, collections of photos with optional narrative, on the website to capture the experience, fun and excitement of the school year.  Photo galleries can appear on the general site or be attached to specific extracurriculars, course sections or calendar events.

  • Fun polls - Fun polls add interest and interactivity to your site.  Create a multiple choice poll question and automatically gather and display data.

Extracurriculars & Social Activities

  • Extracurriculars - Every extracurricular, from the football team to the chess club, has its own page complete with extensive descriptions, photos, photo galleries, calendar, roster and more.  Teams can list their players and the positions they play.  Keep a history of achievements by listing awards and championships.  Maintain a list of FAQs about the extracurriculars for parents and students.  Upload relevant files such as parental consent forms.  Maintain a list of relevant links about the sport or club.

  • School calendar - The school calendar lists events of general interest such as social events and sporting events.

  • Volunteer/fan/booster Web updates - School Site Manager's volunteer capabilities make it easy to authorize a fan or parent to enter descriptions of football games, Habitat for Humanity builds or photo galleries from other events.  Get more people involved in entering interesting information about school activities, yet keep the administration in control.

School Newspaper

  • Online school newspaper - Our online school newspaper is a full newspaper content management system. The paper is divided into sections and includes a special feature, "stories we're following," which collects stories on the same subject over multiple issues.

  • Online newsroom -  Our online school newspaper allows students to work on their publications singly and as a group in a "newspaper production" atmosphere.  Selected student accounts are given permission to access and edit the newsroom pages where the online newspaper is composed.  Once ready, articles are submitted for approval for online publication.

  • Automatic morgue - Articles are automatically archived according to their volume and number.

For Administration

  • General school information - Course section and calendar event information is highly structured.  Other information is not.  Database-managed pages make it easy to maintain the content of miscellaneous pages such as Student Handbook, Health Clinic or About Our School pages.  Like the others, Database-managed pages may be updated without technical knowledge.

  • Learning standards management - Daily lesson plans can be tied to our database of TEKS objectives to help manage compliance to state-mandated course content.  See if all required objectives are being addressed and when.

  • Message From the Principal, Message from the Guidance Director - A link to the message from the principal appears on the home page.  Messages appear automatically and are automatically archived.

  • College recommendation information management for counselors - Counselors need to write a lot of college recommendation letters.  This facility helps collect and organize the student information in electronic form.  Counselors concentrate on the message they wish to convey rather than the mechanics of assembling information.

  • School cafeteria menu management -Menu management enables cafeteria staff to create menus that are then automatically posted to the school calendar.  The cafeteria can be described as multiple food lines, each with foods available every day, on certain days of the week or on specific dates.

  • Administrative control, distributed development - The administration can manage the user accounts and grants permission to individuals to maintain specific aspects of the site without further administrative review.

For the Webmaster

A teacher can authorize a parent or student to make changes to his or her course sections. A coach or extracurricular sponsor can authorize volunteers to enter information about the latest game, meet or field trip. The Webmaster can authorize volunteers to enter announcements, photo galleries or profiles to keep the site content new and fresh.
