One of the keys to having a vibrant and information-rich website is bringing others into the process. You must maintain control of content that appears on the site, but with proper tools, you can make that as easy as possible. The Volunteer System can both help you maintain content while getting students and parents actively involved in the school and its website.
The Volunteer System has two components, the Volunteer Opportunities database and Authorize Volunteer Helpers.
Authorize Volunteer Helpers
Website content is maintained most efficiently when the folks who have the information and who are motivated to publish it are enabled to enter it. If they're required to submit it on paper to a webmaster who then must enter it, chances are that a lot of information just won't get published.
Authorize Volunteer Helpers gives you the capability to authorize a parent or trusted student to change a particular page without prior review. For example, one common application is to authorize one or two members of the PTA to edit each of a set of PTA pages. They can put out their information easily and conveniently.
Another common application of Authorize Volunteer Helpers is to authorize a trusted student to maintain a particular extracurricular page such as the Robotics Club or FFA. The authorization can be granted by the extracurricular sponsor.
If problems arise with authorized volunteer helpers, the authorization can be removed with a simple click.
Volunteer Opportunities
Many time parents and students would be interested in doing volunteer work for the school but are unaware of what needs to be done. Our Volunteer Opportunities database is a simple way to increase student and parental involvement by publicizing volunteer opportunities.
When a teacher has a need for volunteer help he can post it into the Volunteers Opportunities database and let the need be known. Parents and students can scan the current list of opportunities for ones that appeal and that fit their schedule.
Typical volunteer opportunities are for volunteering one's time but teachers also sometimes request student incentive items, donations of equipment or materials or other items. |
